On December 1, 2025, it completed the acquisition of the veteran broker OANDA (for roughly $422 million), becoming a group with both a prop business and a broker. FAQ
Can I change my strategy mid-challenge or after passing?
Changing your approach itself isn't restricted, as long as you stay within the profit target and loss limits. However, 1-Step (both the Challenge and the FTMO Account) has a consistency rule called the Best Day Rule (50%): as long as your single best day's profit exceeds 50% of the sum of all your profitable days, you can't pass or receive a payout. 2-Step has no such rule. If changing your approach causes profit to concentrate on a particular day, you could run into this rule.
How many accounts can I hold?
The total funding cap is $400,000 per trader (before scaling). What matters is that this cap only applies to Funded accounts - you can hold an unlimited number of Challenge/Verification-stage accounts. This design suits an approach where you run a lot of challenges at once.
Does FTMO support Japanese?
No, neither the official site nor support is available in Japanese. You'll need to communicate in English.
Is the fee refunded?
For 2-Step, the fee is refunded 100% when you receive your first payout on the FTMO Account (funded account). There's no refund for 1-Step (confirmed on the official pricing page on September 27, 2026).
Why is FTMO trusted?
It has been in operation for over 10 years since 2015 and has paid out more than ¥69 billion in profit to traders cumulatively.
What is FTMO's consistency rule (Best Day Rule)?
FTMO's 1-Step plan applies a consistency rule called the "Best Day Rule (50%)." It states that your single best day's profit cannot exceed 50% of the sum of all your profitable days' profit, and it applies both to the 1-Step Challenge and the 1-Step FTMO Account after going Funded. Important: Breaching this rule doesn't fail the challenge. But you do need to keep trading until the Best Day ratio drops to 50% or below. Until you do, you can't receive a Payout (profit withdrawal). Example: $8,000 profit on Day 1, $4,000 total profit on Days 2-5 → Best Day ratio = 8000/12000 = 66.7%, which fails. You'd need to earn at least $4,000 more on other days to reach a $16,000 total (8000/16000 = 50%, which passes). For 2-Step: FTMO's 2-Step plan has no formal consistency rule. The dashboard shows a Consistency Metric ((1 − biggest day / absolute total) × 100%), but this is informational only and doesn't affect evaluation or withdrawals.
What's the rule against holding through a rollover longer than 2 hours?
On FTMO's Funded/Standard accounts, there's a rule against carrying a position across a rollover pause (market halt) that lasts more than 2 hours. Weekend closes (Friday's close to Sunday's Globex open) are treated the same way - no carrying through. This rule exists to "avoid excess risk from price gaps during periods with no real liquidity," and a violation can void the profit from that trade. Important: this rule only applies to Standard accounts after going Funded - it doesn't restrict the Challenge/Verification stage, including weekend holding. It's also fully waived if you chose the Swing account type (weekends, news, and overnight are all OK). The symbols to watch out for in particular are CME-linked instruments - gold (XAU), US stock indices (US30/US500/NAS100), and crude oil (WTI) - around US holidays when CME closes early or is closed. prop-memo.com's EA P&L tracker has a "CME holiday auto-close" feature that can automatically close positions in the affected symbols 30 minutes before the halt time (on by default).
Is the fee in dollars or euros?
It's in euros. Account sizes are labeled in $, but even if you switch the currency display to USD on the official pricing page, the fee stays in €. As of September 27, 2026, list prices are: 2-Step $10K €89 / $25K €250 / $50K €345 / $100K €540 / $200K €1,080; 1-Step $10K €79 / $25K €199 / $50K €319 / $100K €499 / $200K €999. There was an undated sale on the $100K size (2-Step €439 / 1-Step €399).
When can I apply for a payout (withdrawal)?
You can apply starting on day 14 after your first trade on the account. After you apply, it's reviewed within 1-2 business days, and paid within 1-2 business days of approval. 1-Step can't leave payouts in the account to grow the balance - all profit must be withdrawn (official FAQ "How do I withdraw my profits?", confirmed September 27, 2026).
How does the max loss move on 1-Step?
1-Step's 10% max loss is set 10% below the highest end-of-day balance (midnight Central European Time = 7 AM JST, 8 AM JST in winter), and it only ever moves up. But once you receive a payout, the account resets and the line goes back to 90% of the initial balance. 2-Step's max loss is fixed (static) at 90% of the initial balance. For both, the daily loss floor is "previous day's balance − 5% of the initial balance (3% for 1-Step)" (official Trading Objectives, confirmed September 27, 2026).
