Bulenox Complete Guide (2026 Edition): A Deep Dive Into the Futures Prop Firm With Fully Free EA and Automated Trading

Published: 5/2/2026Updated: 9/25/2026

⚠️ Update (September 25, 2026): Bulenox has dropped its monthly subscription model — every plan is now a one-time purchase ($50K is Qualification $175 + $148 on passing, Momentum $143, Fast Track $488). The pricing in this article is outdated. For current prices, rules, and expected value, see Bulenox expected value, calculated.

⚠️ Update (September 21, 2026): Bulenox's official FAQ now says "self-built automation tools only, for personal use only — commercial, shared, rented, or publicly distributed tools are not allowed." (Original wording: "Only user-built tools intended solely for the account owner's personal use are permitted. Commercial, shared, rented or publicly distributed automation tools are not allowed.") Connecting to Rithmic via a third-party API or combo software carries an extra $100/month fee. Also, the monthly subscription model ended on August 17, 2026: $50K is now Momentum $143 one-time / Qualification $175 (30 days) + $148 Master activation / Fast Track $488. The "third-party algos OK," "KEP91," and "monthly $115+" mentioned in this article are records from that earlier period. For the latest comparison, see Futures prop firms: a full review of automated-trading rules across 26 firms (September 2026).

Note: Prop firm rules and pricing change frequently. Always check the official Bulenox website for the latest accurate information. (Last updated: July 5, 2026)

📊 Update (September 23, 2026): I calculated expected value under the same assumptions for the futures props that allow automated trading (FTMO Futures, FundedNext Futures, MyFundedFutures, Lucid Trading) and for Topstep. FTMO Futures challenge expected value, calculated · FundedNext Futures expected value, calculated · MyFundedFutures expected value, calculated · Lucid Trading expected value, calculated · Topstep expected value, calculated

Why Bulenox, right now

Bulenox is currently almost the only futures prop firm that officially states it allows EAs, bots, copiers, and algorithms without restriction on every account. Against an industry backdrop where Apex and Topstep restrict funded accounts, Lucid and TPT ban automation entirely, and even MFFU only lifted its ban in July 2025, Bulenox has been automation-friendly consistently since it was founded in 2022.

On top of that:

  • Trustpilot 4.8 stars from 1,455 reviews (89% five-star)
  • Reliable payouts processed every Wednesday
  • A wide range of account sizes, $25K to $250K
  • Up to 3 Master Accounts (funded accounts) running simultaneously
  • The KEP91 coupon for 91% off, one of the industry's biggest discounts

This is a complete guide to Bulenox, which ranked #6 in 7 futures prop firms recommended for Japanese traders and #1 in 7 futures prop firms that allow EA/automated trading, compared. It digs into the account structure, drawdown mechanics, payout system, and points Japanese traders should watch for.

Company profile: a 2022 Wilmington startup with old-guard stability

FoundersAn experienced group of traders (individual names undisclosed)
Trustpilot rating4.8 / 5.0 (1,455 reviews, 89% five-star)

There's no visible face-of-the-company figure like MFFU's Matthew Leech (though, given that MFFU's leadership names actually became a risk factor because of the MyFundedFX mess, that isn't necessarily a weakness). Bulenox itself has no reports of opaque management or trouble. Its Trustpilot rating of 4.8 stars is second in the industry only to MFFU's 4.9, giving it the rare position of already having old-guard stability in just its fourth year.

Bulenox's account structure: two stages x two options

The most important thing to understand about Bulenox's account system is the two-stage structure of "Qualification Account → Master Account" and the choice between "Option 1" and "Option 2" within the Master Account.

Code
[Purchase] → Qualification Account (evaluation, monthly billing)
↓ Hit the profit target
Master Account (funded, live trading)
├── Option 1: Trailing DD, monthly billing continues
└── Option 2: EOD DD, no monthly fee (one-time activation fee only)

Qualification Account (evaluation phase)

  • Monthly billing (see the pricing table below)
  • Trailing drawdown only (calculated in real time)
  • Hit the profit target → promoted to a Master Account
  • Can be reset after failing (for an extra fee)

Master Account (funded, live)

  • Up to 3 accounts can run simultaneously
  • Choose between Option 1 and Option 2 (you can pick differently per account)
  • A separate entity from the Qualification Account (cannot be reset)
  • Activating an additional Master Account requires one of your existing Master Accounts to reach its starting balance

Master Account: Option 1 vs Option 2

ItemOption 1 (No Scaling)Option 2 (EOD)
DD typeTrailing (real-time)EOD (as of that day's close)
Monthly feeYes (ongoing billing)None (one-time activation fee only)
Activation feeNot requiredYes (based on account size)
Long-term costMonthly fees add upOne upfront payment → zero after that
Best forTraders planning to cancel soonTraders planning to run long term

💡 If you're going to use Bulenox long term, Option 2 is the only sensible choice. Pay the activation fee once and the monthly fee drops to zero — run it for just six months and it overtakes Option 1.

💰 Monthly billing vs. one-time purchase: understanding futures prop pricing models completely

This is the single most confusing point for traders moving from FX prop firms (FTMO, Fintokei, etc.) to futures props. Using Bulenox as the example, here's a ground-up explanation of the pricing model.

Why futures props use a "monthly billing" model

ItemFX props (FTMO, etc.)Futures props (Bulenox, etc.)
Evaluation feeOne-time paymentMonthly billing
Evaluation time limitYes (e.g., 30 days)None (take as many months as you need to pass)
On failureChallenge fee forfeited → buy a resetCan simply continue next month (as long as you keep paying)
Philosophy"Get funded after you pass""Rent the trading environment, like paying rent"

In short: FX props = "buying the right to take a one-time exam," futures props = "paying monthly rent to borrow a practice space."

Bulenox's two phases x pricing patterns

Code
Phase 1: Qualification Account (evaluation)
↓ Monthly billing (pay every month until you pass)
Phase 2: Master Account (funded)
├── Option 1: Monthly billing continues (an ongoing "trading environment" fee)
└── Option 2: One-time activation fee → zero monthly fee after that

A concrete cost example ($50K account)

Case 1: Pass in 1 month, run the funded account for 6 months

OptionPhase 1 costPhase 2 cost (6 months)Total
Option 1 (monthly continues)$24 (with KEP91 91% off)$265 × 6 = $1,590$1,614
Option 2 (one-time)$24 (same)$148 (one-time activation)$172

→ Option 2 is about 9x cheaper (over six months of running)

Case 2: Pass in 3 months, run for 12 months

OptionPhase 1 costPhase 2 costTotal
Option 1$24 × 3 = $72$265 × 12 = $3,180$3,252
Option 2$72$148$220

→ The longer you run it, the more decisively Option 2 wins

Pros and cons of the monthly billing model

✅ Pros

  • No time limit on the evaluation: there's no FX-style "pass within 30 days or you're out"
  • Start small: you can begin the evaluation for $24 ($50K account, coupon applied)
  • No need to buy a reset after failing: just keep the challenge going into the next month

❌ Cons

  • Costs stack up the longer it takes: if passing takes six months, that's six months of fees
  • Choosing Master Option 1 means you keep paying even after getting funded — this is the blind spot
  • Forget to cancel and you'll be billed for nothing

Cases where FX-style one-time pricing is the better deal

  • You're confident you can pass quickly: paying $500-1,000 once on an FX firm can be cheaper than 3-4 months of monthly fees
  • You have the capital and want a $100K account: a one-time 50%-off FX coupon (e.g., $500 off) can be a bigger single saving
  • Your strategy is mainly FX: futures (CME) are simply a different product to begin with

Cases where the monthly-fee "futures" model is the better deal (most Japanese users)

  • First time trying a prop firm: Bulenox lets you start for $24 (FTMO's cheapest FX plan is $155)
  • You want to take your time passing: with monthly billing you can take 3-6 months without rushing
  • You'll switch to Option 2 (zero monthly fee) after passing: lets you optimize cost for long-term trading
  • Diversifying across multiple accounts (up to 3 Master Accounts): more flexible than FX

What happens if you stop paying midway

  • Stop paying during Qualification (evaluation): the account is suspended immediately and data is deleted (starting over means buying a new account)
  • Stop paying on Master Option 1: the account is suspended → profits are still withdrawable (if above the Withdrawal Threshold)
  • Running on Master Option 2: there's no monthly fee to begin with, so there's no such thing as "canceling"

💡 "Switch to Option 2 after passing to get to zero monthly fee" is the go-to move for Bulenox users.

$25K$1,600
$50K$2,600
$100K$3,100
$150K$4,600
$250K$5,600

⚠️ The Withdrawal Safety Threshold is the line your balance must not fall below after a payout. For example, even if a $50K account has made $5,000 in profit, you can't withdraw an amount that would leave your post-payout balance below $2,600.

Understanding the two drawdown methods

🔰 What is drawdown (DD), to begin with?

Drawdown is the line that means "lose any more than this and the account is forfeited." Since a prop firm is effectively lending you its own capital, it sets a "lose this much and you're out" line so a trader can't lose too much.

For example, on a $50K account with a DD limit of $2,500:

  • If the balance falls below $47,500 (from $50,000), the account is force-closed
  • Once you breach it, the account is gone (you'd need to buy a reset)

How this DD is calculated differs by firm and plan, and that's the single biggest source of confusion for beginners. Bulenox has two types.

DD methodWhen it's calculatedFloating lossesFloating profitsBest-suited strategy
TrailingReal timeCounted against DD instantlyThe DD floor risesSwing / long-term holds
EODAs of that day's closeIgnored until the closeIgnored until the closeScalping / day trading

Put simply:

  • Trailing: judged by your P&L this very instant → if a floating loss touches the DD limit, you're out instantly
  • EOD: judged by your P&L as of that day's close → no matter how deep your floating loss gets intraday, you're safe if you recover by the close

💡 Beginners should choose EOD (Bulenox's Master Option 2). It dramatically cuts the risk of being knocked out by an intraday wiggle.

Trailing (Qualification + Master Option 1)

  • DD trails your "highest point reached" in real time
  • Every time your floating profit grows, the DD floor rises with it
  • Once you reach your highest point +$100, DD locks in place (it stays fixed from there)
  • A poor fit for scalping-style strategies that take floating profit and close immediately

EOD (Master Option 2 only)

  • Only the equity as of that day's close (5pm EST) counts toward DD
  • Floating losses aren't reflected until the next day = much easier mentally
  • Ideal for swing / carry strategies
  • Far more forgiving than Option 1's trailing DD

💡 If you're running this long term, Master Option 2 (EOD) is the only sensible choice — zero monthly fee and a gentler DD, a double win.

Profit split and payout system

Profit split

  • The first $10,000: 100% to the trader
  • Above $10,000: 90/10 (90% to the trader)

Payout schedule

  • Processed every Wednesday
  • The first payout requires at least 10 trading days from the start of the Master Account
  • Bank transfer, denominated in USD

The 40% consistency rule

An important rule for Bulenox payouts.

  • The rule: at the time of a payout request, your single best day cannot exceed 40% of cumulative profit
  • Example: out of $2,000 cumulative profit, if one day earned $900 → 45% > 40%, so the payout is blocked
  • A violation doesn't get your account banned — you just keep trading to even it out, or wait until your best day drops to 40% or below

How to handle the consistency rule

  • Adopt a steady, small-daily-gains style
  • Even if you had a big winning day, you can still get paid out once other days catch up and even out the average
  • Build profit over time without rushing

Trading rules in detail

Trading hours

  • Trading day: 5:00pm CT to 4:00pm CT the next day (North American Central Time)
  • All positions must be closed by 15:59 CT
  • No holding over the weekend (close everything by Friday's trading cutoff)

Holidays

  • Holidays and weekends don't count as trading days
  • Follows the CME holiday calendar
  • Half-days trade as normal (no automatic close — you have to close positions yourself)

News trading

  • Fully allowed (no restrictions)
  • FOMC, NFP, EIA, etc. are all fine

EA / automated trading (Bulenox's biggest draw)

  • EAs, algorithms, bots, and trade copiers are fully allowed on every account
  • HFT is banned (explicitly)
  • No support is provided for third-party tools (use at your own risk)
  • Self-copy (running the same EA across multiple of your own accounts) is also explicitly allowed

For more detail, see 7 futures prop firms that allow EA/automated trading, compared.

Bulenox vs. other firms (head-to-head)

vs. MyFundedFutures

⚠️ Background on MFFU: MFFU's CEO, Matthew Leech, is also the operator of sister company MyFundedFX (→ SeacrestFunded), which had a wave of payout trouble in 2024-2025 (that MyFundedFX / SeacrestFunded had ceased to exist as of September 10, 2026: myfundedfx.com now redirects to a notice page reading "Seacrest Markets is no longer operating," and seacrestfunded.com redirects to a parked domain). MFFU itself has a strong 4.9-star rating, but it's worth keeping in mind that its leadership has a history of past trouble. See the MFFU complete guide and the prop firm scam checklist for more.

Weaknesses and things to watch for

① No visible founder

The individual names of management aren't public. It's simply "run as an LLC," so there's little to judge trustworthiness by beyond the Trustpilot rating. The risk of a rules change can't be entirely ruled out. (That said, as MFFU shows, having named leadership doesn't necessarily translate into more trust, so this isn't necessarily a clear weakness.)

② Extremely little information in Japanese

The community is centered on English speakers. Discord, Telegram, and YouTube are all in English. With few Japanese users, you can't ask a Japanese-language community for help if something goes wrong.

③ Master Account activation conditions are somewhat strict

Activating an additional Master Account requires one of your existing Master Accounts to meet the starting-balance-plus-profit condition. You can't open all 3 accounts at once as a single person.

④ The HFT ban's interpretation is vague

The official documentation doesn't spell out concrete thresholds for the "HFT ban" (such as a minimum holding time). If you're running an extremely high-frequency bot, it's safer to check with English-language support beforehand.

⑤ You must understand the Withdrawal Safety Threshold

When calculating a payout amount, if you don't keep in mind that "post-payout balance must be ≥ the Threshold," you won't be able to withdraw what you expected. On a $50K account with $5,000 in profit, you need to work out the withdrawable amount as $5,000 minus (the $2,600 threshold minus the gap from the $50,000 starting balance) — the actual math is a subtraction like this.

5 tips Japanese users should keep in mind

① Choose Option 2 (EOD, no monthly fee)

If you're planning to run this long term, Option 2 is the only sensible pick. Pay the activation fee once and the monthly fee goes to zero — run it for six months and it overtakes Option 1.

② Run on a fixed VPS in Tokyo or NY

Home internet connections have IP addresses that change frequently, which could flag you for a warning. Bulenox doesn't explicitly prohibit VPN/VPS use, but for safety, it's best to run on a fixed NY/Tokyo VPS costing around $15-30/month.

③ Try the KEP91 coupon first

One of the industry's biggest discounts at 91% off. A $50K account drops to the equivalent of $24. That alone undercuts every other firm's evaluation fee.

④ Diversify by running 3 accounts at once

Running up to 3 Master Accounts and spreading strategies across them is the standard Bulenox playbook — for example, one account for swing trading, one for scalping, and one running an EA hands-off.

⑤ Tax treatment is "miscellaneous income" (combined taxation)

For Japanese residents, futures prop income is often treated as miscellaneous income under combined taxation — the same treatment as FX prop income. See the prop firm tax guide 2026 for details.

If you want to run a grid or trailing-repeat ("trailing stop and repeat" / トラリピ) type EA on a prop account, checking only whether the ban list mentions it doesn't tell you anything. What actually kills the account is the "floating-loss cap" and whether drawdown is measured on equity or on balance. City Traders Imperium's 1-Step is the unique combination of balance-based DD, no daily DD, off-the-shelf EAs allowed, and grid explicitly permitted. Fintokei doesn't list grid among its 9 banned practices, but off-the-shelf EAs aren't allowed and a combined 3% cap across all open positions becomes the real limit on how many grid levels you can run.
