[2026 Update] Futures Prop Automated Trading Policy Comparison | EA/Bot OK or NG at 9 Firms

Published: 5/2/2026Updated: 9/23/2026

โš ๏ธ Added September 21, 2026: parts of this article's conclusions no longer match current rules. Bulenox changed its policy to ban off-the-shelf/shared bots (self-made only allowed), Lucid Trading now allows automated trading, Apex bans automated trading on all accounts including evaluations, and Topstep bans placing orders from a VPS. For the up-to-date version, which re-reads all 26 firms' official help centers, see A full audit of automated-trading rules at 26 futures prop firms (September 2026 edition). What follows below is kept as a record as of May 2026.

๐Ÿ“Š Added September 23, 2026: For the futures props that do allow automated trading, we ran individual one-year simulations from evaluation through payout to calculate their expected value. We calculated the expected value of the FTMO Futures challenge ยท we calculated the expected value of FundedNext Futures ยท we calculated the expected value of MyFundedFutures ยท we calculated the expected value of Lucid Trading (for reference: we calculated the expected value of Topstep)

"Futures props ban EAs" is still mostly true in 2026

Until a few years ago, "futures props are strict about EAs and automated trading" was industry common knowledge. It looked like the tide had turned when MyFundedFutures fully opened up algo trading on funded accounts in 2025, but dig into the actual details and, as of May 2026, only two firms โ€” Bulenox and MFFU โ€” are fully OK.

Sorted across the industry:

  • Fully OK (2 firms): Bulenox / MyFundedFutures
  • Conditionally OK (3 firms): Tradeify (10-second rule) / Topstep (Combine only) / Apex (Eval only)
  • Banned (4 firms): Lucid Trading / Take Profit Trader / Top One Futures / YRM Prop

Pay special attention to Top One Futures and YRM Prop. Some aggregator sites and review articles list them as "fully automated OK," but checking both firms' official help centers shows EAs/bots are explicitly banned. Violations risk account suspension plus forfeited payouts.

In other words, if you decide based on "I just want to run automated trading," you could end up ejected the moment you pass. This article sorts each firm's policy as of May 2026 into three categories โ€” "fully OK / conditional / banned" โ€” and gives a complete comparison of the 9 firms Japanese EA traders need to know.

โš ๏ธ Very important: automated trading policies have kept changing throughout 2026. The information here is a snapshot as of May 2, 2026 โ€” always re-check the official FAQ/ToS right before you buy.

First, understand the line between "semi-auto" and "fully-auto"

Reading each futures prop's rules, you'll see the word "automated" come up, but it actually splits into two levels.

TypeExampleHow each firm treats it
Semi-automated
(human-supervised)
TradingView alert โ†’ webhook order, NinjaTrader ATM strategy, Tradovate scriptOK at almost every firm (assumes a human is present)
Fully-automated
(fully unattended, set-and-forget)
An EA/bot places and closes orders 24/7 with no human neededOK at only a minority (Bulenox / MFFU / Top One / YRM, etc.)

Almost the only test that matters is: "are you at the screen, able to intervene at any time?" Whether it's Apex's "active management required" or Topstep's "fully automated banned on funded accounts," both are really drawing this same line.

The verdict: a 9-firm EA/automated-trading policy list

โš ๏ธ Important correction: an earlier version of this article listed Top One Futures / YRM Prop as "fully automated OK." After scrutinizing both firms' official help centers, we confirmed EAs/bots are explicitly banned. This was because some aggregator sites (PropFirmPlus, etc.) had incorrect information. A violation risks account suspension plus forfeited payouts, so we've corrected this article (updated May 2, 2026).

๐ŸŽฏ Final verdict: for automated trading, it's a two-way race between Bulenox and MFFU

For all practical purposes, only these two futures props are fully OK with automated trading. Comparing them directly:

Which one fits you?

  • Prioritize EA stability / want zero monthly cost โ†’ Bulenox
  • Prioritize platform flexibility, Japanese info, and trust โ†’ MFFU
  • NinjaTrader-focused, swing-style EA โ†’ either works fine (your preference)
  • Running on TradingView webhooks / Quantower โ†’ MFFU (wider platform support)
  • Minimize risk, prioritize peace of mind โ†’ MFFU (the reassurance of 4.9โ˜…)

๐Ÿ’ก Want to try both? The surest approach is to open a $25K account at each and run for 3 months to compare how well each fits your EA. You can start Bulenox for roughly $24 (KEP91) and MFFU Flex for $49 (STEADY).

Category A: fully automated OK (set-and-forget allowed)

๐Ÿฅ‡ Bulenox (the top pick for automated trading)

Founded in Wilmington, USA in 2022. The only futures prop that has officially stated, since its founding, that "all EAs/copiers/bots are unrestricted" across all account types. The go-to firm for EA traders.

  • Account sizes: $25Kโ€“$250K
  • Monthly fee: $115โ€“$535 (much lower with coupons)
  • Profit split: 100% on the first $10K, then 90/10
  • Payouts: processed every Wednesday (after 10 trading days)
  • Master Account: up to 3 accounts running simultaneously; Option 2 has zero monthly fee
  • EA policy: the official FAQ states "EAs, algorithms, trade copiers, and bots may all be used without restriction on all accounts"

Strengths

  • Fully unattended is OK: none of the "active management" or "Sole Ownership" restrictions other firms impose
  • Copy trading officially recognized: running the same EA across multiple accounts is allowed
  • 3+ years of an automated-trading-friendly track record: has never changed policy midstream
  • Master Option 2 lets you trade with zero monthly cost

Weaknesses

  • Management's names aren't public (though, given how MFFU's public management became a risk factor of its own, this isn't necessarily a clear weakness)
  • Extremely little Japanese-language info (its community is mostly English-speaking)

๐Ÿฅˆ MyFundedFutures (MFFU) (the only major firm with full algo OK)

A major firm with 4.9/5 on Trustpilot from 16,767 reviews. A July 2025 policy update fully allowed algo trading on both Eval and Funded, making it the most automated-trading-friendly firm among the major names.

  • Account sizes: $25K (Flex) / $50Kโ€“$150K
  • Plans: Core / Rapid / Pro / Flex (renewed July 2025)
  • Platforms: NinjaTrader / Tradovate / TradingView / Quantower (via Rithmic)
  • Profit split: 80/20 (Core/Pro) / 90/10 (Rapid/Flex)
  • Activation fee: none

โš ๏ธ Must-read before choosing MFFU: CEO Matthew Leech is also the operator of sister company MyFundedFX (โ†’ SeacrestFunded), which saw frequent payout troubles in 2024-2025 (as of September 10, 2026, that MyFundedFX/SeacrestFunded no longer exists: myfundedfx.com now redirects to a "Seacrest Markets is no longer operating" notice page, and seacrestfunded.com redirects to a parked domain). MFFU itself rates highly at 4.9โ˜…, but given management's history of past trouble, the safe rule is to spread your risk across firms โ€” e.g. Bulenox as well โ€” rather than putting everything into one. See the MFFU complete guide and prop firm scam checklist for details.

Strengths

  • The only major firm with full auto OK on funded accounts: combines trust and freedom
  • Direct NinjaTrader/Tradovate support: your existing automated trading setup runs as-is
  • No activation fee keeps total cost down

Weaknesses

  • 80/20 split: lower than Tradeify/Topstep's 90/10 (Rapid gets you 90/10)
  • 2-step structure: Eval โ†’ Verification โ†’ Live takes longer to fully fund
  • Sister company MFX's history of trouble: diversification is essential

Category B: conditionally OK (you must understand the rules)

๐Ÿฅ‰ Tradeify (bot OK, with a 10-second rule and Sole Ownership)

Tradeify allows bots on Select accounts, but with two important restrictions.

Conditions

  • The 10-second rule (an anti-microscalping measure): not an outright ban, but a threshold. Unless "over 50% of your trades are held 10+ seconds" and "over 50% of your profit comes from trades held 10+ seconds," you can't activate an evaluation pass or submit a payout request (per the official Guidelines for Traders help article)
  • Sole Ownership Verification: your bot must be something you alone own and developed. Purchased EAs, shared strategies, and copy-trading services are not allowed. If multiple traders are detected running the same strategy, the account gets frozen

Who this fits

  • Anyone running a swing/scalp EA that holds for 10+ seconds
  • Copy trading (buying and running someone else's strategy) is NG, so this is for self-made EA traders

#4: Topstep (Combine OK, be careful on funded accounts)

Topstep officially states "EAs/bots are OK during the Trading Combine (evaluation phase)," but there are reports that funded accounts โ€” live accounts on TopstepX โ€” fully ban fully automated strategies, bots, and trade copying.

The practical usage pattern

  • Pass with an EA โ€” easy, but you'll need to switch to manual trading once funded
  • Semi-auto (webhook + manual approval) may work even on funded accounts in some cases

Some traders pass the evaluation with an EA, then route their live trading to a different firm (MFFU/Bulenox) once funded.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Topstep official site

#5: Apex Trader Funding (Eval OK, active management required once funded)

Apex has a structure similar to Topstep.

  • Eval (evaluation): bot/EA OK
  • Funded (Performance Account): "active management is mandatory" = set-and-forget is banned

The official wording requires you to be "at the screen, able to intervene at any time." Apex is a firm that's already prone to payout denials over things like its 30% rule, so if an automated trader is going to touch it at all, treat it as evaluation-phase only to stay safe.

Category C: fully banned (automated traders should not buy in)

โŒ Lucid Trading

We ranked Lucid #5 in our 7 recommendations for Japanese traders article, but it's off the list for automated traders.

  • Bots / EAs / VPNs are all banned (officially stated)
  • Detected violations risk account freezing plus forfeited payouts

It has appeal for discretionary traders (15-minute payouts, etc.), but EA traders should not buy in.

โŒ Take Profit Trader (TPT)

  • The official FAQ states "all trades must be manually executed."
  • Semi-auto (webhooks, etc.) is not explicitly allowed either
  • Even with its tempting lifetime 40%-off coupon, EA traders should go elsewhere

โŒ Top One Futures (explicitly banned per the official FAQ)

Some aggregator sites list this firm as "automated trading OK," but checking the official help center shows EAs/bots are explicitly banned.

  • Official wording: "The use of Expert Advisors (EAs) or Bots is not allowed on Top One Futures accounts. The firm requires all traders to engage in manual, skill-based trading"
  • "Use of any automated trading system, script, bot, Expert Advisor (EA), or high-frequency execution tool is strictly forbidden"
  • On violation: account suspension/termination, loss of funding eligibility, and a record of the violation

For discretionary traders it's a firm with interesting features, like its consistency-rule design (Ignite 15% / Instant Sim Funded 20% / S2F Sim PRO 20% / Elite 25% / Elite Access 40%), but automated trading is completely off-limits.

๐Ÿ“ An earlier version of this article listed this firm as "fully automated OK." The source (PropFirmPlus, etc.) had an error, and after checking official documentation we've corrected the category. We apologize for the mistake.

โŒ YRM Prop (automated trading banned, self-copy only)

YRM Prop occupies almost the same position as Top One Futures. Bots/EAs/third-party algorithms are banned, but there's an unusual exception: "self-copy between your own funded accounts" is allowed.

  • Bots/EAs/third-party algorithms: banned (running via Volumetrica/Quantower etc. also doesn't count)
  • Self-copy (yourself โ†’ yourself): allowed
  • Penalty on detection: account termination plus payout hold/denial
  • Real example: a user review describes a payout being held after being flagged for "a pattern consistent with algorithmic or automated trading"

This fits "someone running multiple accounts fully discretionarily who wants to save effort via self-copy." EA traders should avoid buying in.

3 things Japanese EA traders need to know

โ‘  Some firms ban VPNs outright

Connecting from Japan to a US futures prop, you might want to route through a VPN to an NY region, but Lucid and others ban VPNs outright. Even at firms that allow it, using a VPS (Tokyo/NY) is usually fine, but more and more firms flag home-user VPNs as NG. Since your connecting IP changing frequently can trigger a warning on its own, it's safest to stick to a single dedicated VPS.

โ‘ก Copy trading โ‰  running the same strategy on multiple accounts

In Japan, "copy trading" usually means "following someone else's strategy," but in the overseas prop industry it's a broader concept that also includes "running your own same EA across multiple accounts" (self-copy). Tradeify's Sole Ownership Verification can flag even this kind of self-copy as NG. Watch for the unusual rule variance: Bulenox / MFFU explicitly allow self-copy, while YRM Prop allows only self-copy and bans bots entirely.

โ‘ข "EAs made purely to pass the evaluation" often run afoul of the rules

Using a "copy product" EA built specifically to beat prop challenges can be treated as a violation under terms like "prop firm exploitation" or "unauthorized strategy." Some firms, like FundedNext, explicitly state "EAs built specifically to pass prop firm evaluations are banned." An EA that's simply your own discretionary strategy turned into code is fine.

"I want to turn my discretionary strategy into an EA and run it unattended"

โ†’ Bulenox (KEP91, 91% off) is the clear pick. Its track record of welcoming EA traders since 2022, plus its explicitly written "fully automated OK" policy, offers peace of mind no other firm matches. Master Option 2 also lets you run at zero monthly cost.

"I want a major firm's reliability plus Japanese-language info"

โ†’ MyFundedFutures (SAVE40). The only major firm combining Trustpilot 4.9 trust with fully automated OK. No monthly fee once funded.

"I want to spread across multiple firms (hedging against policy changes)"

โ†’ Splitting between Bulenox and MFFU is the realistic answer. Top One/YRM are excluded since they turned out to be banned. Bulenox lets you run up to 3 Master accounts, so you can even diversify within Bulenox alone.

"I want to start cheap and only automate the evaluation phase"

โ†’ Use Apex's (KPQQCFDP, 90% off) Eval discount. Just remember you must switch to manual or semi-automated trading once funded.

"I'd rather use a major firm if semi-auto is enough"

โ†’ Topstep's (topstep) Combine phase. Semi-auto via webhook plus manual approval often keeps working after you're funded too.

"Only for a swing-style EA that holds 10+ seconds"

โ†’ Tradeify (LUMI, 40% off). HFT-grade scalping EAs are NG, but anything holding 10+ seconds is OK. Because of Sole Ownership Verification, you can only run your own self-made EA.

Summary: for automated traders, it's really Bulenox or MFFU

For all practical purposes, only these two futures props are fully OK with automated trading. We originally listed Top One Futures / YRM Prop as "OK," but after scrutinizing both firms' official help centers, they're explicitly banned.

"EAs are hopeless at futures props" is becoming a thing of the past in 2026, thanks to the arrival of Bulenox and MFFU. That said, don't take "this new firm looks OK" at face value โ€” always check the official help center's EA/bot policy before buying. Our correction on Top One/YRM is exactly the lesson here.

[September 2026 Edition] A Full Review of Automated-Trading Rules Across 28 Futures Prop Firms - Where Can You Actually Run a Bot, EA, or Copy Trade?

We reread the official help centers and terms of 28 US futures prop firms on September 21-22, 2026, and sorted their automated-trading policies into five tiers: fully automated OK / self-built only with conditions / semi-automated only / banned / not addressed. Bulenox has switched to banning commercial and shared bots, Lucid allows them, Apex now explicitly bans automated trading on all accounts, and Tradeify requires a live video of you activating the code yourself. Covers firms that ban VPS, how each firm defines HFT (100-300 trades/day, 10-second holds), and firms that have shut down or stopped selling accounts. We've also added the two big FX firms that entered futures - FTMO Futures (allows algos) and The5ers Futures (bans algos).

To automate trading at a futures prop firm, you can't use an MT5 EA โ€” you need NinjaTrader's NinjaScript, a TradingView alert plus a relay service, or a given firm's API. This article covers the differences between the three approaches, which firms support which one, the exact steps the site owner took to get a NinjaTrader bot running on an FTMO Futures evaluation account, the coding pitfalls that trip people up (bar timing, time zones, forced liquidation, contract months), and the terms-of-service traps to watch for.

The5ers Futures vs FTMO Futures: Comparing Two FX Giants' Futures Launch by Automated Trading Policy [September 2026]

The5ers and FTMO have both launched futures products. On September 22, 2026 we measured prices and rules for every size on both official sites. The decisive difference is automated trading: The5ers' FAQ states outright, "algorithmic trading is strictly forbidden, and users will be banned from our programs," while FTMO states, "there is no reason to restrict discretionary trading, algorithmic trading, or EAs." FTMO also explicitly allows VPS and VPN, which puts it ahead of the dedicated futures firms if you plan to run an EA around the clock. We line both up against the same 26 US futures props on cost per unit of loss buffer, EOD drawdown, the scope of the consistency rule, and payout caps.

Switching from a trend-following EA to a mean-reversion EA is not a rule violation at most prop firms. Only two firms clearly ban it: FundedNext and TradingCult. Funded7, however, judges by the statistics of notional value rather than logic, so changing instruments or lot size can get you flagged. I also confirmed in the official help centers that FundingPips requires proof of ownership for fully automated self-built EAs, and explicitly bans connecting via VPN/VPS โ€” though that ban sits in a single line inside the identity-verification section, in contrast to FundedElite, which allows VPS with prior notice.
